From the desk of Pro. David Andrew Labagh, 4th Monarch of Ubar Grotto…

These past 2 months away from Grotto have seemed so long that I’m even starting to slightly miss George. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to get back to good ol’ fashioned Grottoing. Before our next meeting on September 27, we have a number of upcoming events where I hope to see a lot of you!

Speaking of our next meeting, petitions are due for Neophytes wishing to join Ubar at our October Ceremonial and Halloween party. Nothing can excite, mentally scar, and emotionally damage a new prophet much more than joining at our Halloween Ceremonial! As Prophet Russ Kratzer says, “We need the dues!” So, be sure to bring any and all petitions to our September stated meeting!

September 12: Highway Clean-Up (9-11am)
Prophet Abe Shaffner (a.k.a. Queen of Bologna, a.k.a. Highway Clean-Up Coordinator) has proclaimed this date to be our next highway clean-up. Meet at parking lot off of the Rheems/Elizabethtown exit of 283 @ 9am or join your fellow prophets for breakfast first at Country Meadows Restaurant on 743 at 7:30am. September 16: Delco Grotto Ceremonial
Out mother grotto, Delco, has asked that we assist them in doing an “Ubar Style” ceremonial for them at their September meeting. We need you, Prophets. Please email ubargrotto@gmail.com if you are able to travel to Delco and assist with the ceremonial and we can coordinate travel accordingly.
September 19: Autumn Days @ the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown (10am-4pm)
Ubar Grotto will be out in full force for Autumn Days and will have a booth as well so we show all of Elizabethtown how awesome we really are. Plus, I have a karaoke machine I’m bringing. It wouldn’t be Autumn Days if Ubar wasn’t causing some sort of ruckus.
September 25: Azim Grotto Ceremonial in NYC
Any prophets wanting to travel to the evil empire of Azim are more than welcome! If you haven’t been to Azim Grotto before, I encourage you to attend.
September 27 at 6PM: Ubar Stated Meeting @ Spring Garden Conference Center
Petitions are due for the October Ceremonial! Invites for the meeting will be sent in mid September!

Ubar Prophets enjoy some fellowship at Autumn Day 2014!

For the fourth year in a row, Ubar Grotto participated in the annual Autumn Day festival held at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown on Saturday, September 20, 2014. This year’s event was bigger than ever, thanks to the dedication of the Eternal Flame monument in honor of veterans. Ubar Grotto purchased a paving stone to assist with the construction and we are always proud to support our veterans, especially those that enjoy sympathy and good fellowship with us today.

Well over a dozen Prophets spent some time at the Grotto booth throughout the event, with the beautiful weather helping to draw a record breaking crowd. If you had passed by the booth, you’d have noticed at least four Prophets who were there most of the day – Pro. Russ Kratzer, Fraternal Relations Coordinator; Pro. Jay Laser, Kazoo Instructor Extraordinaire; Pro. Chris Young, Chief Cowbell Ringer; and Pro. Tim “The Tyrant” Settlemyer, everyone’s most hated Monarch.

The Ubar stand was especially popular with kids (and kids at heart) as the Grotto distributed kazoos, noise makers, whistles, and more. These were used by the Prophets to conduct impromptu concerts for passers by, to the entertainment of most (but not all!)

If you missed out on Autumn Day, we send our condolences, as this event was one that the Freemasons of Pennsylvania will look back on with pride for years to come!
