Ubar Grotto is very pleased to have no less than 4 (!) worthy Prophets vying for the position of Venerable Prophet of our Grotto. In an effort to help the members get to know these Prophets a little better, each of them has been asked five questions, the responses to which will be posted here.
First up, we have Prophet Mark Mattern.
Age: 47
Place / County of Residence:
Hummelstown, Dauphin County, but my primary Masonic affiliations are in Lebanon.
What skills can you offer as Venerable Prophet of Ubar Grotto?
I have been an elected officer in several Masonic bodies, webmaster/secretary/treasurer for the 60th Masonic District (which is being disbanded, but that’s not my fault). I also enjoy refreshing beverages of an alcohol nature and look to start/improve my cigar smoking appreciation so that I can enjoy some relaxing time at D&S Cigars.
What is your favorite part of the Grotto experience?
Meeting new friends, laughing at the Azimians, wondering where George’s original fez will turn up next, and just having a good time in a less formal atmosphere. The ceremonials are great, but it may be hard to top this last one.
What are your goals as you progress through the line, especially if you are elected to the office of Monarch?
To continue to expand Ubar Grotto into all segments of the Masonic community. Recruit new members to grow our ranks and “Da band”, and look for other ways to have fun and support other groups at the same time.
