The members of Ubar Grotto hail from a wide swath of Central and Eastern Pennsylvania. From the Cumberland Valley to borders of coal country, all the way down to the Mason Dixon line. Within that area lies Pennsylvania’s 2nd Masonic District, led by Bro. Scott Matincheck, District Deputy Grand Master; this district covers Harrisburg and it’s closer suburbs. Known for it’s humor and fellowship, the 2nd District has become a great friend of Ubar Grotto.
On Saturday, Febuary 9, 2013, several members of Lodges in the 2nd Masonic District participated in the Polar Plunge, which benefits the Special Olympics. On a day when much of the northeastern United States was buried in several feet of snow, the intrepid Brothers of team “Matincheck’s Marauders” dove into the frigid Susquehanna River in support of children. Among that group were several Ubarians, including Pro. David Labagh, Master of Ceremonies, and Pro. Tracy Bitner, Trustee. As the men barreled into the river several shouts and hollers were heard, mostly due to the cold! Everyone who supported the event left with a great feeling and, thankfully, without hypothermia.
Thank you to the 2nd Masonic District for supporting this charitable endeavor and we at Ubar Grotto look forward to participating with you next year.
