Ubar Grotto stops for no one, most especially someone named Sandy! While the hurricane was trundling to the East Coast, Ubar Grotto held its October stated meeting. This meeting was made even more enjoyable thanks to its proximity to Halloween. Several of the Prophets came dressed in costume, ranging from knights, to devils, to golfers, and even a portly Master Mason!
While business meetings aren’t much fun, important work was transacted. The bills were paid and announcements were made. One highlight was the announcement of the 2012 HARD End of the Year Ball to be held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at the Appalachian Brewing Co. in Harrisburg. All Prophets are invited, but you must purchase a ticket. Drop an email to ubargrotto@gmail.com if you’re interested in going.
The Monarch then opened up the floor for nominations for officers. The following were nominated:
- Monarch – George H. Hindson
- Chief Justice – Timothy R. Settlemyer
- Master of Ceremonies – David A. Labagh
- Venerable Prophet – Peter J. Ruggieri
- Treasurer – Douglas R. Harms
- Secretary – Seth C. Anthony, PM
- Trustee – Russell W. Baker
These men will stand election at the November stated meeting. Pro. Hindson announced that the Installation of Officers will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at the Spring Garden Conference Center, starting at 7 PM. Prophets will be able to enjoy finger foods and beer for a cost of $10. Other libations will be available for purchase at a cash bar. A flyer with information for reservations will be sent out shortly.
The Monarch also announced that the November stated meeting will be the second Convivial of the year, so come enjoy your meal!
Finally, it was time to transact the most important business the evening – the Ceremonial that followed the stated meeting! Ubar is happy to announce that we welcomed seven new Prophets into the Realm, bringing our membership to 72! That’s right, in just one year, Ubar Grotto nearly doubled in size, taking in 32 new members. The best part is that there are still three outstanding petitions. Those men will be held on file until our next Ceremonial, scheduled for March of 2013.
It should also be noted that during the meeting Ubar members raised $80 through a silent auction of the left over hospitality items from the PGA meeting earlier in the month. The proceeds will go to the Parker Harley Benefit Fund, which is collecting donations to help a member of DeMolay from Ephrata, PA, receive a desperately needed liver transplant.
Thanks to everyone for another great meeting and braving the storm. We know the candidates appreciated it!
